Minister of Education Honourable Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to prioritizing critical areas of development as outlined in the recent 2024 Annual Education Joint Sector Review (JSR) Meeting. Speaking at a high-level gathering with development partners at the Bingu International Convention Centre on Friday, the minister highlighted the importance of translating these strategic plans into concrete actions that will benefit every child and educator in Malawi.
During her address, Minister Wirima emphasized the collaborative spirit evident among stakeholders during the two-day JSR deliberations, noting that this collective effort underscores a shared commitment to advancing the National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP 2020-2030) and the broader vision set out in Malawi 2063.
“I urge each one of us to maintain focus and momentum in turning these plans into tangible outcomes,” she stated, expressing optimism about the potential for transformative change within the education sector.
The meeting showcased significant achievements made across various educational levels, including infrastructure improvements and increased textbook availability in Basic Education, enhanced transition rates in Secondary Education, the establishment of a continuous professional development framework for teachers, and ongoing advancements in Higher Education infrastructure and research initiatives.
Minister Wirima also called for sustained support and collaboration in vital areas such as emergency education, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in schools, increasing access to secondary education, investing in teacher development, and strengthening data analytics for informed decision-making.
The 2024 JSR highlighted the importance of these collective priorities as Malawi positions itself to create a resilient educational system capable of equipping its learners for the challenges of a rapidly changing global landscape. As the ministry looks forward, the commitment to these key initiatives remains critical for the future of education in Malawi.
